How This Site Was Built

  Turns every page into plain HTML ahead of time. No server puts a page together while you wait.

  Runs the build and serves the pages.

• Sanity

  Where the site's content is moving, so it can be edited without touching the code. Publishing there is set up to start a fresh build.

Three font files set the type, each a trimmed subset of Unbounded or Archivo, all served from this site. Together they weigh 52 KB. Every page preloads Unbounded and Archivo, and the outlined cut of Unbounded Black loads only where a page draws letters in outline. Two more files cover accented letters and curly quotes, and a browser loads them only for a page that uses those characters.

• No scripts from other companies. Every script comes from this site.
• No analytics and no tracking.
• No cookies of its own. The Privacy Policy lists the few settings the site keeps in your browser.

• WCAG 2.2 AA on every page, with a keyboard focus you can see on white, violet and yellow.
• A reduced-motion version of every moving part. The Motion switch at the bottom of each page turns motion off.
• Fonts under 100 KB in total.
• The home page under 2.5 MB fully loaded on a phone, with any 3D under 1.5 MB.
• No third-party scripts.

Every change gets a preview link first, and the preview is checked for accessibility and speed before the change goes live.

The scorecard at the bottom of every page checks it again in your browser each time it loads: how long it took, what it weighs, how many accessibility checks failed and how many tracking scripts ran.
