Concept Concept redesign, not a commissioned project. You Are The Hero and the families agreed to have it shown.

The Site

The concept's home page: the comic cover, how it works, the Hall of Heroes, the origin story and ways to help.

  1. Design

Halftone dots, ink borders and hard shadows, with a cover that turns a kid's photo into their hero.

  2. Words

How It Works is four comic panels, plus a scrubber that takes one hero from pencils to inks to colors.

  3. Proof

The Hall of Heroes: 14 kids and the heroes they dreamed up, searchable by either name.

  4. Access

Every text color pairing passes WCAG AA contrast, and the focus ring is as bold as the comic.

  5. Speed

One file for review. The built site would get the same speed budget as every Jud & Co. site, set before design starts.

  6. System

A five-step Submit a Superhero form, with a review screen before anything is sent.

The Standout

A photo that turns into a hero.

The cover cycles through seven kids. Each photo breaks into halftone dots, the way comics were printed, and re-forms as the hero their artists drew.

The cover: You Are Devon, with Devon's photo.

Shown with the families' consent. Every name, photo and quote in the concept comes from their current site.

Then & Now

The first screen before and after.

Their site today opens on a banner of every hero. The concept puts one kid and their hero on the cover, with Submit a Superhero first.
